Sara Watkins performed “My Friend” live on the air at WNRN’s studio in Charlottesville, VA. In a separate interview, Watkins explained that when she wrote the song, it was intended as a prayer for a friend in need.
If you are in need, may this be for you today.
My friend is worn and torn, he’s badly wounded
I don’t know what he really needs
Bring hope to his heart, relief to his mind
Bring hope to his heart, relief to his mind
He lives for love of what he knows
But he cannot put his trust in much anymore
Bring hope to his heart, relief to his mind
Bring hope to his heart, relief to his mind
Keep my friend safe, strengthen his eyes
The night has been long but the dawn is sure to be fine
Bring hope to his heart, relief to his mind
Bring hope to his heart, relief to his mind
